To create a bridge or crown, the dentist must ensure they have all the details of the teeth. This is usually done by taking impressions, but for some time now, we have been using an intraoral scanner to make a digital impression for crowns and bridges. With this technique, the teeth can be measured accurately in a very short time. The digital scanning technique comes from the United States and has been used to perform hundreds of thousands of restorations. The scanner ensures that a digital impression of all teeth and molars is taken quickly and easily. The calculations of the oral content are very precise due to the high-quality computer technology.
How does it work?
With an intraoral scanner, digital impressions have been made of various restorations. During the scanning process, various images are captured and then digitally processed into a precision model.
Step by step:
- The dentist uses an intraoral (mouth) scanner, without impression trays, to make a digital impression of the upper and lower jaw, including preparation (= the ground tooth or molar) and bite relationships.
- The dentist sends the digital data online to Labomassa.
- We review these digital data and create virtual models from them. Any ambiguities can be discussed with the dentist.
- Next, models are created from these digital data. These models are digitally produced by subtractive milling of gypsum-filled polyurethane.
- Meanwhile, Labo Massa can manufacture the substructure of the restoration using CAD/CAM techniques.
- Once the models arrive at Labo Massa, we can manufacture the entire crown or bridge.
