An implant is an artificial root that replaces one or more lost natural roots.
In this case a crown is placed on this implant, although implants can also be used
create a bridge.
In patients who no longer have teeth, multiple implants can also be placed to support the entire prosthesis. These are usually 2 implants in the lower jaw that are connected to each other by a bar. This bar then has a retaining clip that is attached to the lower prosthesis. Nowadays it is also possible to make such constructions in the upper jaw.
However, this is usually not necessary due to the anatomical shape of the upper jaw and is limited to the lower denture.
The procedure is performed by a specialized dentist or an Orall surgeon at a local hospital.
It is a fairly simple procedure, usually taking no longer than 45 minutes and is done without much pain
